I’m Iryna, a Ukrainian cross stitch designer in Portugal and the founder of Hooh.la Studio. Come stitch with me.
I’m Iryna, a Ukrainian artist and cross stitch designer based in Portugal. I run Hooh.la Studio, and I started Hooh.la Cross Stitch Club for people who want to make time to stitch and have someone to stitch with.
The studio, then and now
My husband, Andriy, and I started Hoohla near Sumy, Ukraine. We designed patterns, made kits, and sent our work to stitchers around the world.
On 24 February 2022, the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion, our studio was bombed. We lost our workspace, equipment, and most of our original designs. Andriy went to defend Ukraine and was killed in October 2022.
My daughter and I found safety in Portugal. On 16 July 2025, I reopened the studio as Hooh.la.
I donate a portion of the studio’s profits to nonprofit organizations in Portugal working to protect the ocean.
Why a club?
Designing a pattern is only part of the fun. I want to make room for choosing colours, sharing work in progress, talking through a tricky bit, and getting some stitching done together.
I’m hosting an English-speaking club with regular online stitch-togethers and a pattern library for members. Bring the project you’re working on, ask questions, and share your progress.
